Restaurant software: which modules do you actually need?
Every restaurant program arrives with a long feature list. This page is not that list; it explains which module you need on day one and which one only matters in month six, depending on the size of your business.
What does restaurant software do?
Restaurant software brings a venue’s daily flow together in one place: the order is taken, a check is opened, it reaches the kitchen, stock is deducted, payment is recorded, and at close it all lands in a single report. What separates it from accounting software is timing: accounting describes the past, while restaurant software runs the service you are in right now.
Venues often buy software in the wrong order: first the most visible module (the register), then inventory in a separate program, couriers over WhatsApp — and at month end none of the three sources agree. The right order is: checks and the kitchen flow on day one, inventory and recipes in the first month, loyalty and multi-branch reporting as you grow. In HMS POS all of these live in the same system, so turning one on later means flipping a setting, not buying another program.
- One subscription: modules are not sold separately
- Setup, menu import and staff training are free
- Monthly or annual billing, cancel whenever you want

Which module, and when?
The six core modules of restaurant software
All of these are inside the HMS POS subscription; there is no per-module fee.
Sales and checks
Dine-in, delivery, takeaway and self-service sale types; splitting, merging, table transfer and mixed payment.
Kitchen and bar display
Orders land on the station, preparation time is counted and late orders change colour. Paper tickets disappear.
Inventory and recipes
Automatic stock deduction by recipe, low-level alerts, waste records and per-portion cost analysis.
Delivery and couriers
Call-centre screen, caller ID, address records, courier assignment and delivery status tracking.
Staff and permissions
Role-based permissions, shift tracking, tip distribution, commission calculation and a record of who did what.
Reporting
Revenue, product profitability, hourly heatmap, staff performance and end-of-day (Z) reports, live.
A single venue and a chain do not need the same thing
In a single venue most of the gain is in service speed: ordering at the table, instant delivery to the kitchen, fast bill closing. At two or three venues the problem shifts from speed to consistency; the menu and prices must match everywhere and the reports must read side by side. In a chain the real issue is standardisation: a new branch must be able to copy the setup, and franchisees must see the same screen as head office. HMS POS is the same system in all three cases — only the permissions you open up change.

What does restaurant software actually cost?
Judging the price by the monthly fee alone is misleading. The real cost has three parts: the subscription, the time lost to setup and migration, and the gap the software fails to close. If a cheap program does not tie stock deduction to recipes, you save a few hundred lira a month while never being able to measure what leaves the kitchen. With HMS POS setup, menu import, training and support are inside the subscription price; there is no per-module fee and no forced contract term.
