A POS setup for hotel restaurants and bars

In a hotel, food and drink never happens in one room: the restaurant, lobby bar, pool and terrace serve the same guest at different times. All of it in one system, with the spending on the guest’s room.

Hotel restaurant solution

What a POS must do in a hotel restaurant

The hotel restaurant’s guest is usually a staying guest who would rather not carry a wallet. A drink by the pool after breakfast, dinner in the restaurant, coffee at the lobby bar late at night — they expect to pay for all of it on one bill at check-out. So the first job of a hotel restaurant POS is not only closing a bill at the table but transferring it to the room.

The second issue is the guest: in a hotel the person reading the menu is often from abroad and wants allergen information in their own language. The third is spread: outlets are far apart yet all belong to the same hotel. In HMS POS each outlet is defined as its own area, the QR menu opens in the guest’s language and, with HMS Otel, the check is transferred to the room account.

Four screens that matter in a hotel restaurant

Transfer to the room account

When the bill closes, the amount is posted to the guest’s room account in HMS Otel; no slips go to the front desk.

Areas and floor plan

The dining room, terrace, lobby bar and poolside are drawn as separate areas, and table status is read by colour.

Multilingual QR menu

Guests see the menu in their own language with photos, calories and allergens, and can order from the table if you wish.

Reservations

Date- and table-based reservations for the evening restaurant show on the same plan.

International guests

A guest who can’t read the menu, a waiter explaining every dish

In a hotel restaurant in a tourist region, the same evening brings tables speaking German, Russian and Arabic. The printed menu stays in one language, the waiter tries to describe every dish and the allergen question goes unanswered. In the QR menu guests choose their own language; product names, photos and allergen warnings appear in it. Calling the waiter or asking for the bill is a single tap on the menu too.
